What we do
The PDS aims to help people with Parkinson's and their relatives with the problems arising from Parkinson's. To collect and disseminate information on Parkinson's and to encourage and provide funds for research into Parkinson's.
The PDS's work includes:
- A free-phone helpline staffed by nurses offering advice, support and a 'listening ear' to anyone affected by Parkinson's
- Research into the cause, cure and prevention of Parkinson's and improvements in treatments, as well as welfare research
- Information on all aspects of Parkinson's including drugs, therapies, surgery, social and health care rights, benefits, insurance, employment, driving, holidays and respite care
- A wide range of information sheets, booklets, audio tapes and videos for people with Parkinson's
- A quarterly colour membership magazine
- Welfare workers attached to PDS branches
- An outreach service for black and minority ethnic communities
- Special interest groups
